ITU-ISO (Istanbul Chamber of Industry) Industrial Design Projects for SME’s


As a university-industry collaboration "ITU ISO Industrial Design Projects for SME's" is the first ever systematic design education and support project for SME's in Turkey. The project is conducted as part of the course "EUT 492 Graduation Project" at ITU. Senior IPD students works with SME's that are members of Istanbul Chamber Industry for three moths. SMEs with no previous experience in industrial design are preferred for the project. The project was first run in 2003 spring semester, since then it has been repeated in every spring semesters. So far more than 160 industrial design projects were completed in 6 years. The project has been included in Good Practice in SME Design Support case studies by SEEDesign, an EU initiative for design policy.

The project has been widely covered by the national press; Referans, Sabah and the magazines Trendsetter and KOBIEFOR. The project was the subject of a 2 hours live discussion program on Technology TV, 3 July 2005, and it was also exhibited in the IV. ISO Industry Congress in 25-26 November 2005, Istanbul.
